Family Reunion

This is a series of watercolors based on photographs I took between 1999 and 2005. At that time the Dunn Family Reunion took place in Turin Alberta. I’ll never forget the first reunion I attended in 1999. Tom and I drove through a series of pelting hail storms, some of the hail stones bigger than golf balls. We set up tents in a thunderstorm in the dark. As Tom’s girlfriend, about to meet 150 plus members of his extended family, I was nervous. I needn’t have worried. From the moment I crawled out of the tent the next morning, I was welcomed and embraced from one family member to the next, and the wonderful journey of getting to know them began. I’ve attended all but one of the bi-annual reunions since 1999. From the moment one ends, we look forward to the next.
